What has become the biggest conference on agroecology in the World celebrated its 15th birthday this January. The Oxford Real Farming Conference (ORFC) was started in 2010 as an antidote to the very conventional Oxford Farming Conference – it so incensed a few food and farming activists with its big farm and big pharma arrogance that they set up in competition. Now ORFC attracts 1800 participants (three times more than the ‘other’ one) with thousands more online from around the World.
Almost 400 speakers shared their expertise in 15 venues all running throughout the two days of 4-5 January. Topics ranged from the political to the spiritual, from the technical to cultural, from the global to the mycorrhizal, in major presentations and big discussions, with case studies and deep dives, skill-sharing workshops, seed swops, meditation sessions and much more, as well as and of course plenty of good food, socialising and music making.
